‘Tulsa King’ Is Renewed for Season 5, Then the Show Packs Its Bags ...Saudi Arabia

“Tulsa King” is getting a fifth season, and it comes with a twist that, well, just may twist the title. The Sylvester Stallone crime drama is packing up and moving to New York City.

Paramount+ announced the renewal on Monday, Oct. 5, less than two weeks before Season 4 premieres on Friday, Oct. 16. Picking up a show before its new season has even aired is a strong sign of how much the streamer is counting on Stallone’s mob boss.

If you need a refresher, the series began with New York mobster Dwight “The General” Manfredi walking out of prison after 25 years. His reward for keeping his mouth shut was a one-way ticket to Oklahoma, where he was told to build a criminal operation from scratch. Four seasons later, the story is sending him back where he started.

The move also makes history for the man behind the show. “Tulsa King” will be the first Taylor Sheridan series to film a season in New York City. Sheridan, the creator of “Yellowstone,” has built his television empire on ranches, oil fields and wide-open country.

“We are thrilled to bring fans even more of this incredible series and to be shooting the next season of ‘Tulsa King’ in New York, where Dwight Manfredi’s story will continue to evolve,” said Drew Brown, an executive at Paramount Television Studios.

New York officials sounded just as pleased. “We’re excited to welcome the cast and crew of ‘Tulsa King’ to New York State for its fifth season,” said Hope Knight, president and CEO of Empire State Development. A new storyline and the state’s tax credits were both cited as reasons for the switch.

The renewal brings family news for Stallone, too. His daughter, Scarlet Rose Stallone, has been promoted to series regular and will return as Spencer. Four actors are also joining the main cast: Glenn Fleshler of “Billions,” Anthony Skordi, Nickola Shreli and Erik Palladino. Palladino’s next project is “I Play Rocky,” a movie about Stallone’s fight to get “Rocky” made.

One big question remains unanswered. Nobody has said what the move means for the rest of Dwight’s Oklahoma crew, and it is fair to wonder how many of them can believably follow him north.

Fans will have plenty to chew on in the meantime. In Season 4, Dwight tries to make his empire legitimate while corrupt politicians, dangerous new enemies and a crushing personal loss come at him from every direction. Gretchen Mol joins the cast as Tulsa politician Amanda Clark.

And the “King” family keeps growing. A spinoff called “Frisco King,” starring Samuel L. Jackson, is also on the way.

So the name on the title still says Tulsa. Whether it stays that way once Dwight is back home is a question for another day.
