Clareburt came in a little more than a second behind Japan’s So Ogata, who touched in 4:01.87 for 4th.
This marks the 3rd World Cup series in a row where Clareburt has broken the New Zealand record in the 400 IM after he set the record during the 2024 series as well.

This put him about four tenths ahead of his former record time, where he split 56.07/1:01.56.
His breaststroke leg was significantly lower tonight, coming in at 1:10.10 compared to the 1:07.74 he swam last October. He turned in 3:07.37 at the 300 mark, exactly two seconds off the 3:05.37 pace he set in Carmel.
His freestyle leg made up all the ground, though, with him splitting 55.65 to make up more than two seconds on the 58.29 he split last year.
