The first season, which dropped on Netflix back in October 2022, was inspired by a true story and followed the Brannock family as they move into their dream home, only to find themselves plagued by threatening letters from a mysterious figure known only as “The Watcher”.
A second season was ordered by Netflix back in November 2022, but since then there has been much uncertainty around the future of the project, especially after Watts shared with Entertainment Weekly in 2024 that she didn't have any updates on it.
He laughed: "I've been trying to get calls in there to be like, 'Hey, I've got ideas!' But I don't think anyone's interested!"
Speaking during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Brennan – who created the show alongside Ryan Murphy – was asked if The Watcher season 2 was "next up" for him, to which he responded: "Yes. I was just writing that."
It’s yet to be clarified whether a second season of The Watcher would continue the story of the first, which ended on an ambiguous note, or take an anthology format and tell a new tale.
