2026 NEW ZEALAND SC SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIPS
September 27th – October 1st Parakiore Recreation and Sport Centre, Christchurch, New Zealand SCM (25m) Meet Central ResultsThe 2026 New Zealand Short Course Swimming Championships wrapped up tonight in Christchurch, but not before two national records and three age records bit the dust to conclude the competition.
First, in the women’s 50m backstroke, 21-year-old swimmer Amber George took down her own New Zealand standard en route to capturing gold.
The Coast Swimming Club athlete stopped the clock at a time of 26.45 to top the podium, erasing her former PB and Kiwi record of 26.60 established at the 2025 edition of these championshps.
She led a trio of Coast swimmers to land on the podium, with teammates Savannah-Eve Martin and Milan Glintmeyer joining her in respective times of 26.48 and 27.17, the former of which also dipped under George’s old record.
Zyleika Pratt-Smith made her presence known in the women’s 100m breaststroke, with the 22-year-old notching a new national record in the heats.
Pratt-Smith produced a time of 1:06.38 to slice .16 off Brearna Crawford‘s former record of 1:06.54 nabbed last year.
Pratt-Smith split 14.12/16/91/17.32/18.03 to capture the top seed and produce the new record. When the final came around, the Coast ace added slightly, still earning the gold in a time of 1:06.40.
Crawford snagged the silver medal in 1:06.93, while April Lin rounded out the podium in 1:11.16, a new Age Record for 13-year-olds.
The additional age records came in the women’s 200m backstroke, as Glintmeyer topped the podium in a new PB of 2:05.69 to get to the wall over three seconds ahead of the pack.
Then United’s Fraser Walker got the job done in the men’s 200m freestyle, establishing a new Kiwi Age Record for 18-year-olds, courtesy of his time of 1:45.25.
Kevin Zhang was the runner-up in the race, hitting 1:46.06, as Brendan Vasser‘s performance of 1:47.08 garnered him the bronze medal.
