Audi is putting another brick in the foundations of its Formula 1 project, with the manufacturer revealing plans for a brand-new campus in Hinwil as it continues to build its future around the Swiss home of its works team.
The new facility will sit less than a kilometre from Audi’s existing base, underlining the manufacturer’s intention to establish deep roots in the region.
Construction and development of the campus will continue towards 2030, although parts of the new complex have already become operational this summer. Audi’s existing Hinwil facility will subsequently focus on manufacturing and wind tunnel operations.
Audi builds for the long haul
The new campus will become another key piece of an operation spread across three locations. Power-unit development and production will remain in Neuburg, Germany, while Audi’s technical centre in Bicester, which opened in July 2025, will continue supporting the Formula 1 programme.
For Binotto, the Hinwil project is about far more than simply providing Audi with another building.
“The Campus will play an important role in helping us attract and retain world-class talent while providing the foundations required to achieve our long-term ambitions,” Audi F1 CEO Mattia Binotto said.
“Building a successful Formula 1 team is ultimately about people. The best engineers, designers, mechanics and specialists want to work in an environment that allows them to collaborate, innovate and perform at their highest level. The Campus will help us create exactly that environment.
“What makes this project particularly special is that it allows us to shape the future of Audi Revolut F1 Team from the ground up. Opportunities like this are rare in modern Formula 1. We are not simply moving into an existing facility; we are creating a home designed around our people, our culture and our ambitions. This Campus is an important part of that journey.”
A new home for Audi’s F1 ambitions
The scale and timeframe of the project offer a glimpse of Audi’s ambitions beyond its difficult first season as a full works operation.
The team currently sits eighth in the 2026 constructors’ championship with 17 points, trailing Haas by 10 points while holding a five-point advantage over Williams.
The results may not yet reflect Audi’s long-term expectations, but the infrastructure programme is clearly being built with a much longer horizon in mind.
Nico Hulkenberg and Gabriel Bortoleto will remain Audi’s drivers for 2027, while the Hinwil campus is intended to provide the wider organisation with the facilities and working environment required to develop into a fully established F1 operation.
Binotto also made a point of acknowledging the local community that has hosted the team for decades.
“We are proud that the next chapter of Audi Revolut F1 Team will be written in Hinwil and I would like place on record my thanks to the Municipality of Hinwil itself,” he said.

The message from Hinwil is therefore straightforward: the manufacturer is not merely entering F1 — it is putting down roots.
