Margaret Lietzau, a finalist at the spring and summer NCSA Championships, has announced her verbal commitment to compete for Tulane University in New Orleans beginning in the fall of 2027.

A senior at New Trier High School in Winnetka, IL, Lietzau has been a member of her school’s varsity swimming and diving team all four years. She also trains year-round with New Trier Aquatics, where she primarily specializes in free and fly.
Lietzau posted a string of fast swims at the 2025 FMC Speedo Grand Challenge in November, logging lifetime best times in four events. She placed 9th in the 100 fly (57.11) after setting a best time of 56.78 during prelims, and she placed 10th in the 200 fly (2:04.31 – PB) and 1000 free (10:20.76 – PB) and 14th in the 50 free (24.22 – PB) and 100 free (52.44).
Lietzau turned in another series of strong performances at the 2026 NCSA Spring Championships in March. She earned a second swim in the 200 fly, placing 30th in a best time of 2:02.73, in addition to contesting the 50 free (24.28), 100 free (51.98), 200 free (1:52.67), 500 free (5:13.37), 50 fly (26.08 – PB) and 100 fly (58.55).
At the 2026 NCSA Summer Championships (LCM) in July, Lietzau earned a second swim in five events and clocked lifetime best performances in four events. She took 14th in the 50 free (27.04 – PB) and 400 free (4:26.35 – PB), 22nd in the 100 free (57.99 – PB), 23rd in the 200 fly (2:22.55) and 24th in the 200 free (2:08.09). She also contested the 50 fly (30.63) and 100 fly (1:05.13 – PB).

Based on the results from the 2026 American Conference Championships, Lietzau would have landed in the ‘B’ final in the 200 free and 200 fly and the ‘C’ final in the 100 free and 500 free, putting her in a good position to score points for Tulane right from the start.
On the team itself, Lietzau would have ranked 3rd in the 100 fly and 200 fly and 4th in the 100 free and 200 free last season, setting her up to be a strong contributor when she arrives next season.
Currently set to join Lietzau in Tulane’s class of 2031 are Olivia Wong (free/back/IM) and Joey Dumm (free/fly/IM), who should both make for strong training partners over the next four years.
