Time crime television strikes again, this time in the form of a vintage series that was recently revived at Netflix. Where else?
Nearly 40 years after launching on NBC, Unsolved Mysteries is soon returning once more — and in rare form. The beloved franchise’s first-ever feature-length documentary, Unmasking the Tylenol Killer, will stream for free on The Roku Channel starting October 9.
The new project was revealed Wednesday, September 23 following an Unsolved Mysteries press conference with the Ada County Sheriff’s Office, where they announced the resolution of one of Idaho’s longest-standing cold cases: the identity of the “Unknown Wanderer,” an unidentified man who died inside a Boise church in 1982.
According to a recent news release, the announcement also unveiled a possible connection between the case and the 1982 Tylenol poisonings, an unsolved case that claimed seven lives in the Chicago area and remains one of the most significant unsolved crimes in U.S. history. The Ada County Sheriff’s Office reportedly worked closely with the Unsolved Mysteries team throughout the investigation.
The recently revived series took to social media this week to promote its new documentary. “The biggest case in Unsolved Mysteries history, uncovered,” reads the recent Instagram post’s caption. “Unmasking the Tylenol Killer—the newest documentary, coming exclusively to @therokuchannel on October 9th.” Check out the preview footage below.

Directed by Terry Dunn Meurer — co-creator of the franchise — the film is said to present “powerful new evidence” while identifying “the strongest suspect ever uncovered.”
Meanwhile, Unsolved Mysteries remains one of the highest-profile mystery series in TV history. As fans well know, for over 40 years the team has told real-life stories by generating leads, finding answers and helping families seek the truth.
