TMZ reports that the country legend’s dying wish was that “no one could see her on her deathbed because she didn’t want anyone to remember her in her fragile, dying state.” However, she did allow her longtime wig and makeup artist, Cheryl Riddle, to come in because she wanted to look her best when she died.
“Our sources say Dolly figured Cheryl would see her anyway when she passed because she’d eventually have to do the hair and makeup regardless — so she was fine with her being by her side,” the outlet writes.
Parton’s nephew and former head of security, Bryan Seaver, also saw her the day before she died. TMZ further reports that part of their final conversation was the singer reiterating that she wanted Seaver to announce news of her death. But her siblings and others who tried to get inside were denied entry.
Parton died at the age of 80 on Tuesday, Aug. 25, after a brief battle with cancer.
It was also reported that the singer traveled to Germany roughly a year before her death to try an experimental cancer treatment. TMZ reported that she flew to Frankfurt on a private plane and remained in Germany for about a week. They added that “Dolly believed the treatment helped restore her strength and felt it had been effective.” As for the exact type of cancer she battled, as well as details of the experimental treatment, no information has been released.
Parton was laid to rest in a private ceremony at Woodlawn Memorial Park and Mausoleum in Nashville.
