Peng, 23, won in 2:05.77, which put her almost three seconds ahead of her countrymate Sun Mingxia, who won silver in 2:08.65. Peng’s time snapped one of the oldest Asian Records on the books: Zhao Jing‘s 2:06.46 from the 2010 Asian Games, which was also the Asian Games and Chinese Records.

Peng Xuwei New Asian Record 50m 29.66 100m 31.44 150m 32.18 200m 32.49 Total Time 2:05.77After winning bronze at the 2023 World Aquatics Championships in 2:06.7, Peng was off her best to finish 6th at the Paris Olympic Games (2:07.9 in the final).
While Australian Kaylee McKeown and American Regan Smith are still the clear favorites for next year’s World Championships, this 2:05 helps Peng jump the gap to challenge for a medal in Budapest and Los Angeles.
Oldest Asian Records Still Standing
In the long course pool, there are only four Asian Records that were older than Zhao’s 200 back record. All were set in polyurethane supersuits in 2009.
