As NHL teams began meeting with the media on Wednesday, more news started to come out regarding offseason injuries and roster moves. Some star players are reporting to camp with health concerns, including a former captain in Detroit and a star in New York.
In an effort to keep us up to date, here are some notes from around the NHL on Wednesday.
Detroit Red Wings forward Dylan LarkinNHL Injury Updates
The Islanders announced forward Mathew Barzal won’t skate for the next two weeks due to aggravation of a prior injury that caused some inflammation. Obviously not ideal for the Isles. Red Wings interim GM Shawn Horcoff said Dylan Larkin suffered an upper-body injury this week during training and won’t be on-ice at the start of camp. Larkin requested a trade this summer and has been stripped of the captaincy in Detroit. Interesting… Dominic James, who turned down a deal with the Blackhawks (who drafted him) and opted to sign with the Lightning before last season, will miss the start of the season after breaking his hand training. Tampa center Yanni Gourde will be out until December while recovering from offseason hip surgery as well. Leafs GM John Chayka announced former Blackhawks forward Max Domi failed his physical and is out indefinitely. The Leafs are going to let Domi explain the issues he’s been dealing with since a surgery this summer. Blue Jackets goaltender Elvis Merzlikins failed his physical today, which was expected following shoulder surgery last month. Columbus GM Don Waddell said “we’re not going to see him here in the near future.” Waddell also said they’re still trying to get something done with (still) pending RFA Adam Fantilli. It looks like another old friend, Louis Crevier, is going to miss some action. News from Buffalo is that Crevier had shoulder surgery this summer and is still returning. The Sabres will also be without Jason Zucker to start the regular season. The Blackhawks traded Crevier to Buffalo in the Byram deal.GMJK said Jason Zucker (sports hernia) is not going to be ready for the regular season. Louis Crevier (shoulder surgery) is coming back from that. Status uncertain. #Sabres
