This month, Aaron welcomes Carolina Public Humanities director Victoria Rovine and associate Women’s and Gender Studies professor Tanya Shields. Shields is the featured speaker at an exciting event Thursday, September 17, at the Ackland Art Museum: it’s called “She Will Be Quite A Manager: From Plantation Owner to Girl Boss.”
Shields’ talk will focus on two women (one in the U.S., one in South America) who harnessed prevailing ideas about femininity to achieve success in male-dominated society – but reinforced racial injustice and inequality by doing so.
