But what you take from it and carry with you forward is what’s really important, and those are the people, and those are the relationships. There’s nothing more important than a handful of people in your life at this point. And I’m just happy to say that I have that.”

I had a lot more control of my emotions and a little bit more understanding of who I was as a person, so I was not a favorite of the show or the show producers. The people that worked with us for interviews always wanted more drama from me, and they got reality from me. I refused to give them.“I went through three show producers. They kept handing me off because, from my perspective, they weren’t getting what they wanted. They weren’t getting the sound bites from me that they wanted. They weren’t getting the high level of drama from me, and I was very conscious of that. They would word questions and then reword questions to try to get a different reaction or elicit a different statement from you. But I stayed consistent. I wasn’t gonna compromise myself just to add drama to the show. Drag Race was putting up its very first all-star season, bringing together some of the biggest fan-favorites and most “robbed” queens for another shot at the crown. And the producers decided to try out a brand-new twist on the format for the returnees, having them compete as — and get eliminated as — pairs.“We were all sideswiped by that,” Chad recounts. “None of us were expecting to compete in teams. We all went there with the intention and desire to compete as individuals. But you had to make the best of it, and luckily, I got paired up with my buddy, [Season 1’s Shannel], that I’d known a long time, and we had a freaking great time. I think the fans didn’t like it. Everybody has a different opinion about it. If I could change it, I wouldn’t, because that’s the timeline that we’re on. That’s how it happened, and I’m fine with it. And I actually had a good time. In spite of it all, I had a good time, and all’s well that ends well.”To be fair, it did end very well for Chad. After losing out on the Season 4 crown to Sharon Needles, she made it all the way to the end yet again. But I would never say never.”After thinking it over, however, Chad specifies her return under one specific condition.“You know what I would probably go back for?” she asks. “The grand finale. That I would not pass up. That makes me teary-eyed a little bit. The show, when it’s over, that’s when I’ll go back.”
