The Bank of America Chicago Marathon always brings buzz and excitement to the city. But of course, it also brings lots of traffic — and road closures.

One thing spectators who are hoping to watch from the grounds should keep in mind is how to make their way to and from the marathon. Despite street closures, which are announced as race day gets closer, navigating through the marathon and its 29 neighborhoods should not have to be difficult.

To prevent getting stuck in any traffic, the Chicago Transit Authority offers various means to travel to and from the marathon this year. The L train’s Red, Blue, Brown, Pink, Orange and Green lines are accessible across different miles of the marathon.

Grand Red Line Station – Miles 1, 3 and 12.5

To get to Mile 1, board a Red Line train and exit at Grand Avenue To get to Mile 3, exit at Grand Avenue and walk three blocks west to LaSalle Street To get to Mile 12.5, exit at Grand Avenue and walk four blocks west to Wells Street

Jackson (Red or Blue Line) Station – Mile 2

To get to Mile 13.5, board any Brown, Pink or Orange Line train, exit at Washington/Wells and walk two blocks west on Washington to Wacker Drive

UIC-Halsted Blue Line Station – Miles 14 and 17

To get to Mile 14, board a Blue Line train and exit at UIC-Halsted, then use the Halsted Street or Morgan Street exit to walk two blocks north to Adams Street. Runners will be viewable in Greektown To get to Mile 17, exit at UIC-Halsted, then use the Halsted Street or Morgan Street exit to walk one block north to Jackson and view runners

18th Pink Line Station – Mile 19.25

To get to Mile 19.25, board a Pink Line train and exit at 18th Street to then walk four blocks east to Loomis Street

Cermak-Chinatown Red Line Station – Mile 21.5

To get to Mile 21.5, board a Red Line train and exit at Cermak-Chinatown

Sox-35th Red Line Station – Miles 23, 23.25 and 23.5

To get to Mile 23, board a Red Line train, exit at Sox-35th, use the 33rd Street exit and walk four blocks to Michigan Avenue To get to Mile 23.25, exit at 35th Street and walk four blocks east on 35th Street to Michigan Avenue, where you can see the marathon runners To get to Mile 23.5, exit at Sox-35th, use the 33rd Street exit and walk five blocks east to Indiana

35th-Bronzeville-IIT Green Line Station – Miles 23, 23.25 and 23.5

Using the Green Line, you can get to Mile 23 by exiting at 35th-Bronzeville-IIT and using the 33rd Street exit to walk one block east to Michigan Avenue To get to Mile 23.25, exit at 35th Street and walk one block east to Michigan Avenue To get to Mile 23.5, use the 33rd Street exit to walk two blocks east to Indiana

Cermak-McCormick Place Green Line Station – Mile 25

Roosevelt (Red, Green or Orange Line) Station – Finish line

To get to the finish line, board a Red, Green or Orange Line train, exit at Roosevelt Road and walk east on Roosevelt Road toward the Museum Campus and Grant Park
