The North Texas Nadadores (NTN) have hired Augie Busch to its coaching staff, head coach Scott Talbot has confirmed to SwimSwam.

Busch, the longtime University of Arizona head coach, will become one of the club’s new Lead Coaches, where he’ll work with swimmers from the Developmental Groups to the Senior level.

“The North Texas Nadadores are excited to welcome Augie Busch to our talented coaching staff,” Talbot said. “His technical knowledge and mindset regarding the developmental process fit perfectly into how we are building the team. We are excited about the collaborative process our coaching staff is undertaking to work together across all levels within our club.”

Busch will take over the groups previously slated to be coached by Jim Smith, who is no longer with the club, Talbot confirmed. Smith was listed as a coach with the club in their most recent newsletter issued on Sept. 7.

NTN also recently lost its former head coach Jason Roberts, who took a job with the Franklin Regional Swim Team in April to be closer to family.

Talbot then came in as the new head coach in June and implemented a bit of a different, collaborative format with the club, where coaches work with both senior and age group levels.

Talbot joined NTN from the Y-Spartaquatics Swim Club in South Carolina, where he led the team to the overall and boys’ team titles in back-to-back years at the 2024 and 2025 YMCA LCM National Championships.

Busch previously coached at Arizona for seven seasons, taking over prior to the 2017-18 campaign before being let go in May 2024.

During his tenure, the Wildcats’ men’s team finished as high as 12th at the NCAA Championships (2021), while the women’s team’s best finish was 14th (2019).

Prior to Arizona, Busch was the head coach at the University of Virginia for four years (2013-17), winning three women’s ACC titles, earning a pair of top-five NCAA finishes, and being named the ACC Women’s Coach of the Year three times.

He also worked as the head coach at Houston for two seasons (2011-13), and prior to that, was an assistant at Arizona, his alma mater, from 2003 to 2011 under father Frank Busch.

NTN also announced that Brenna Reynolds and Izzy Mahendra will be officially joining the staff and working with some of the junior groups.

The club is currently seeking a second Lead Coach to work in the same role as Busch.

The Nadadores recently sent one swimmer, Ella McWhorter, to the 2026 U.S. Junior National Championships. The Texas A&M commit won bronze in the girls’ 50 breaststroke and also placed 5th in the 100 breast.

McWhorter, previously with the Lakeside Aquatic Club, also won gold in the 50 breast and silver in the 100 breast at the Speedo Sectionals in Austin in July, while Finley Laurence also scored points for NTN on the boys’ side, placing 5th in the 1500 free and 8th in the 800 free.
