For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
Junior Nationals qualifier Henry Holtan has announced his verbal commitment* to swim and study at Brown University beginning in the fall of 2027. He publicized the news on SwimCloud, writing:
I am excited to announce my commitment to the admissions process at Brown University to continue my academic and athletic journey. I want to thank my family, friends, teammates, and coaches at OCA, especially Coaches Tyler and Alice, for all of their support along the way. Also thanks to Coach Kevin and Coach Matt for this incredible opportunity. Go Bruno!
A rising senior at Issaquah High School in Washington, Holtan has been a member of his school’s varsity swimming team since his freshman year. He also trains year-round with Olympic Cascade Aquatics, where he primarily specializes in backstroke, sprint butterfly, and sprint freestyle.
Holtan is coming off a 2025-26 season that saw him drop nearly four seconds in the 100 free, over three seconds in the 100 fly and 200 back, and over a second in the 50 free and 100 back. He clocked all of his current personal bests at the PN BC Premier Invitational in March, where he swam times of 48.48 and 1:47.15 in the 100 and 200 back, 21.12 and 45.76 in the 50 and 100 free, and 49.20 in the 100 fly. His time in the 100 back is under both the Winter and Summer Junior Nationals cuts, while his 200 back is under the Winter standard.
On the high school scene, Holtan helped Issaquah win both the 200 medley relay (20.65 anchor) and defend their 400 free relay (46.35) title at the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) 4A State Championships in February, in addition to finishing runner-up in the 100 back (48.80) and taking bronze in the 200 IM (1:51.65), after touching seventh in both events as a sophomore.

Holtan’s current career bests in the 100 and 200 back would have qualified for the ‘C’ finals, while times of 20.05, 44.02, and 47.87 were needed to earn a second swim in the 50 free, 100 free, and 100 fly. With two full seasons of training still to go before he lines up at his first conference meet, Holtan is set up to be an immediate contributor.
Holtan joins Matias Mejia, Alen Cindric, Ethan Landon, John Landers, and Johnny Macko in committing to Brown’s class of 2031 so far.
*Note: A verbal commitment between an Ivy League coach and a prospective student-athlete is not an offer of admission, as only the Admission Office has that authority. The coach can only commit his or her support in the admission process. Ivy League Admission Offices do not issue “Likely Letters” before October 1 of the prospective student-athlete’s senior year of high school. The Likely Letter, while issued after an initial read of the student’s application, is not an offer of admission to the university.
