Crew on a Delta flight from New York City to Chicago’s O’Hare Airport declared a mid-air emergency to land as quickly as possible after fumes were detected in the plane’s cabin on Tuesday, authorities said.

Around 4:15 p.m., Delta Flight 1390 landed at O’Hare Airport after its flight crew declared an emergency to receive priority handling from air traffic control, according to a statement from the airline.

“At Delta, the safety of our customers and crew comes before everything else. After fumes were detected in the cabin, our crew followed established procedures to land safely in Chicago.” the airline said in a statement.

There were 130 people on the plane, including 5 crew members. All of the customers deplaned normally at the gate after a safe landing.

The aircraft, an Airbus A220, will be evaluated, Delta said.
