More than 15,000 pounds of ready-to-eat guanciale pork was recalled over concerns it could be contaminated with listeria, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service.
The recall, issued on Friday, applies to imported RTE dry-cured pork jowl — also known as guanciale — products that were produced at Est. 1937L Bome SRL in Italy on May 21 and imported into the U.S. on several dates throughout July. The recalled items were shipped to distributors and food service locations throughout Illinois, Michigan, Idaho, California, Florida, New Jersey, New York and Texas, according to the USDA.

Individually vacuumed packages of various weights labeled “GUANCIALE PORK JOWL PRODUCT OF ITALY” with “LOT: 263311US” and “BEST IF USE BY: 05.16.27.” The product has an additional label with “DOK GUANCIALE” on the packaging.Ferrarini USA, Inc.:

A product sample tested positive for listeria, the USDA said, however, no confirmed reports of illness from the recalled meat have been made.
“FSIS is concerned that some products may be in food service and retail refrigerators and freezers. Food service and retail locations are urged not to serve or sell these products. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase,” the recall states.
Anyone concerned they may have the recalled meat can check for establishment number “IT 1937 L CE” inside the Italian mark of inspection or printed on the case label, something all the recalled products will have.
