ROCHESTER, N.Y. – An update to the tornado outbreak from Wednesday: the National Weather Service in Buffalo completed another storm survey in and around Letchworth State Park, and confirms two more tornadoes touched down, causing damage there around 8PM Wednesday evening. One just on the east side of the Genesee River gorge, and one just to the left of it. Both in the south end of the park. That brings the total for the up to 7 in Niagara, Orleans, Genesee, Livingston, Wyoming and Seneca Counties.
Now, the Labor Day weekend will feature quite, but cool weather. A northeast flow will allow cool Canadian air to flow in from the north, keeping our high temperatures in the lower 70s both Saturday and Sunday. With the cooler air in place, there’s the slight chance of a brief pop up shower, mainly in the Finger Lakes Saturday afternoon. Sunday will also have that cooler air in place, but also drier air, so we expect mainly dry weather on Sunday. Monday looks great, with highs a few degrees warmer – in the low to mid 70s and a mostly sunny sky. So, while the temperatures may be a little cool for the “last hurrah of summer,” it’ll be very comfortable for any outdoor plans you have.
We’ll warm up a little into the middle of next week ahead of our next wave of low pressure. That will also bring our next chance of showers, maybe a few rumbles of thunder, followed by a quick punch of more fall-like air to end next week.
