Any time Pete Crow-Armstrong homers these days, it’s notable. He’s now just one away from 40 homers on the year, a wholly-arbitrary, but wholly-impressive threshold to cross. It’s going to be a very cool moment when he does it. (And then he’ll just need to run wild and steal a bunch of bases in the final few weeks of the season to get to 40-40.)
Last night’s home run number 39, therefore, was notable even if for no other reason.
But there WAS another reason it was notable! Brewers starter Logan Henderson got his exceptional changeup down below the zone, yet PCA somehow still golfed it out 400+ feet to center field. It was a freak show in the best possible way:
How do you hit this ball out? ?Logan Henderson had never given up a home run on a changeup below the zone, until this from PCA. pic.twitter.com/d1GgtjtI9Z
— Rob Friedman (@PitchingNinja) September 4, 2026This pitch was 1.20 ft above the groundIt’s Pete Crow-Armstrong’s 5th career home run on a pitch 1.20 ft above the ground or lower, all since 2024 began That’s the most in MLB since the start of 2024 t.co/CqOVEDsaU3
— Sarah Langs (@SlangsOnSports) September 4, 2026Without the barrel of the bat working as much horizontally (the lower the pitch, the less and less you can realistically maximize the usable part of the barrel to elevate), it’s almost impossible to hit one that far to center field. We know PCA is a very good low-ball hitter, but good gravy. Let’s just say he’s earned the right to chase down there.
Making the homer all more compelling? Henderson had successfully executed the exact same pitch in the exact same spot in PCA’s earlier at bat. This time, he was ready:

— Rob Friedman (@PitchingNinja) September 4, 2026The funny thing is that Pete Crow-Armstrong said after the game that he was actually pre-preparing to be more on the fastball in the game. But he can adjust really well within a given at bat:
“I think deep down I knew I was capable of this kind of production.” Pete Crow-Armstrong joined @Ken_Rosenthal after PCA's 2-run homer proved to be the difference in the @Cubs' 2-1 win over the Brewers! pic.twitter.com/mjgIgKHuuo
