BAZETTA — A Cortland woman, 42, died Friday morning in a collision with a horse on state Route 46 near Cadwallader Sonk Road in Bazetta Township while she was riding a motorcycle.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Warren Post is investigating the 4:20 a.m. crash. The Bazetta Township Fire Department and EMS responded to the scene.
A 2006 Suzuki GXR 1000 motorcycle operated by Heather M. Robinson, 42, of Cortland was traveling south on Route 46 when two horses entered the roadway. Robinson struck one of the horses, causing her motorcycle to travel off the right side of the road and into a ditch. She sustained fatal injuries and succumbed to those injuries at the scene, a news release from the state patrol states.
Both horses were returned to their enclosure, one with minor injuries.
Robinson was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. Alcohol and drug impairment are not believed to be factors. The crash remains under investigation.
