The Very First Actress to Appear on Hallmark Channel in 2001 Is Still Beloved on the Network 25 Years Later ...Saudi Arabia

News by : (Parade) -

Though much has changed since Hallmark Channel officially launched 25 years ago, one thing that hasn’t changed is how loyal the cable channel has always been to its most beloved stars. That’s certainly true for Hollywood icon Jane Seymour, who was the very first actress to appear on the network and continues to appear there periodically in movies and shows.

On August 5, 2001, the Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman star “flicked the switch” as the fledgling Odyssey Network was rebranded as Hallmark Channel, according to a 2011 Ad Age overview of the network’s first decade.

Seymour appeared onscreen that night to usher in a new era, welcoming viewers to a new cable channel devoted to feel-good entertainment. The Ad Age piece said Hallmark execs chose Seymour to start things off because her work had always “embodied family-friendly, high-quality, trusted television.”

For the first several years of Hallmark Channel, reruns of Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman aired during its daily programming, and later appeared on Hallmark Family and the Hallmark+ streaming platform.

Over the years, Seymour has also returned to the network she helped to launch, starring in numerous original Hallmark Channel movies, including 2008’s Dear Prudence and 2014’s A Royal Christmas with Lacey Chabert. Most recently, Seymour appeared in Hallmark Channel’s 2025 six-episode holiday mini-series Twelve Dates ‘Til Christmas, co-starring Mae Whitman and Mary McDonnell.

Appearing on the Today show in December 2025, Seymour said she was drawn to her latest Hallmark project because she’s always looking to star in “something completely original, (where) I’ve never seen that show before. 12 Dates Til Christmas was very original.”

While promoting A Royal Christmas in 2014, Seymour told Parade, “I love working with Hallmark. I always get to have a lot of fun with great characters. And of course they were the host of Dr. Quinn for a very long time too. I think it’s fun to change it up you know. You can do a Wedding Crashers and then you can do a Hallmark.”

Seymour currently stars in Acorn TV’s Harry Wild, and there’s no word yet on when her next Hallmark Channel project might be.
