The addition of Ryan Lochte to Missouri State’s coaching staff is already paying off in the recruiting department. Onur Ege Öksüz, an IM specialist from Turkey, has flipped his commitment from Arizona State and announced his commitment to swim for Missouri State beginning in the fall of 2026.
“I’m incredibly excited to announce my commitment to Missouri State University. This decision was never just about choosing a university—it was about choosing the environment that will help me become the best swimmer and person I can be. Having the opportunity to work with Coach Dave Collins, who has already guided an IM swimmer to the Olympic level, and to learn every day from one of the greatest individual medley swimmers in history, “Ryan Lochte“, is something I could only dream about as a kid. As a 400 IM swimmer, there is no better opportunity than learning from an Olympic legend. I’m grateful for this opportunity and can’t wait to get to work. Go Bears!”
A member of the Turkish National Team, Öksüz trained at the ENKA Spor Kulübü in Istanbul. He excels at IM, fly, and back and is the Turkish National Age Group record-holder for 16-17 boys in both the SCM 400 IM and LCM 400 IM. He also broke the 18/19+ national mark in the LCM 400 IM with 4:19.92 at the 2025 European Junior Swimming Championships in Slovakia, which earned him a bronze medal in the event.
In addition to his bronze medal winning performance in the 400 IM at the European Junior Swimming Championships, Öksüz also contested the 200 IM (2:07.33) and 200 back (2:04.73). A few weeks later, he competed at the 2025 World Junior Championships in Romania; he finished 10th in the 400 IM (4:23.67) and 34th in the 200 IM (2:07.31).
Most recently, Öksüz raced at the Turkish Interclub Long Course Swimming Championship in May, where he turned in a series of strong performances. He placed 3rd in the 200 back (2:04.43), 4th in the 400 IM (4:24.87), 6th in the 1500 free (15:37.82) and 8th in the 800 free (8:12.58 – PB).

The men won the 2026 Missouri Valley Conference Championship, marking the team’s 6th total MVC championship title. The Bears sent six athletes to compete at the NCAA Division I Men’s Championships, where they finished 28th overall.
Based on the results from the 2026 MVC Championships and his projected SCY times, Öksüz would have landed in the ‘A’ final in the 400 IM, 500 free, 200 back and 200 fly and the ‘C’ final in the 200 IM, setting him up to be a key contributor right from the start. Öksüz notably would have won the 400 IM and been the runner-up in the 200 back with his converted times.
Joining Öksüz in the pool in Springfield this fall are Ethan Nguyen, Elias Mendez and Reece Pangburn, who should all make for strong training partners over the next four years.
