Trigger Point season 4 fans can race ahead to the final episode on ITVX right now, which sees the fate of the world resting on the shoulders of Lana Washington (Vicky McClure) – and that really isn't an exaggeration.
Lana and her team attempt to neutralise a near-apocalyptic threat from a sinister mercenary group, whose goal is to sow international conflict by any means necessary.
Here's how the epic finale of Trigger Point season 4 unfolds.
Trigger Point season 4 ending explained: Is it all over for Lana?
For a show about bomb disposal officers, perhaps it was inevitable that nukes would come into the picture eventually. Suffice it to say, lead actor Vicky McClure wasn't lying when she teased the "biggest threat we've ever encountered on the show".
To do so, they had been recruited to stage a devastating attack that would almost certainly lead the US and the UK into a combined offensive against the Middle Eastern country.
The horrific scheme centred around a football match between the England and US national teams in London, where a nuclear explosive device is planted. The detonation, which could well kill hundreds of thousands, would be pinned on Iran by the true culprits.
Police are ordered not to evacuate attendees as the resulting pandemonium would only make it harder for Lana to do her job – and the odds are already stacked gravely against her.
Helen had been compromised by the mercenaries, who abducted her wayward brother to coerce her into betraying her team. In doing so, she is complicit in the deaths of both Commander Quentin (Julie Graham) and DCI Batra (Maanuv Thiara).
After rescuing her brother, who proceeds to give her precious intel, Helen seeks some form of redemption by alerting Lana to the bomb's location. Still, that won't be enough to clear her ledger in Lana's eyes.
The unthinkable choice is rationalised as it would prevent the device from detonating, causing fewer deaths than a full nuclear blast, but would still sacrifice attendees of the match and potentially leave a radiation leak in its wake.
Lana is given mere minutes to disconnect the sphere containing radioactive elements from the chamber that would prompt a chain reaction i.e. detonation, without damaging the former. No pressure, then.

Lana "would be" proud, we hear, as a recovered Hass (Nabil Elouahabi) and Sonya (Kerry Godliman) greet their "newest recruit".
Stepping out onto her lakeside garden, Helen unwittingly finds herself standing over a bomb nestled beneath wooden decking. But who could have planted it? That's when Lana Washington makes her entrance!
The French police and MI5 partner Andy Oldfield (Michael Balogun) take Helen away, having already arrested her brother for being an accessory in the almost cataclysmic scheme.
Having overcome arguably the ultimate test in her field, saving countless lives in the process, Lana finally appears ready to give herself the time and care she needs to find inner peace.
However, should the series end here – a distinct possibility implied in these concluding scenes – it would be a fitting and deserving farewell to one of British TV's hardest-working characters. Seriously, she must be exhausted.
