“We would like to share an update regarding Sophia’s upcoming schedule,” KATSEYE wrote in a message on their Instagram Stories. “Sophia is focusing on her well-being, and the company remains fully committed to providing her with all the support and resources needed.”
The message, which was also posted on Weverse and signed by HYBE and Geffen Records, went on to note that Sophia “will not be participating in the Wildworld Tour in Europe and the UK,” scheduled for Sept. 1 through Sept. 7.
“We sincerely ask for EYEKONS’ warm understanding, as our highest priority will always be the health and long-term well-being of our artists,” the note continued. “We will share further updates as they become available. Please continue to send your love, warmth, and support to Sophia and KATSEYE.”
Sophia’s break from KATSEYE was announced by HYBE x Geffen on Aug. 7, with the label confirming that she would temporarily step away from promotional activities to focus on her mental health and wellness. According to the company, Sophia had been receiving support and, following consultations with medical professionals, was advised to take an extended period of rest and ongoing care. Her condition was expected to be reassessed in September, according to the Los Angeles Times.
Last week, Sophia’s mother, actress Carla Guevara-Laforteza, offered a glimpse into how her daughter is spending her time away from KATSEYE, noting that she has been keeping busy with decidedly more low-key activities while prioritizing her well-being.
“At present, Sophia is on hiatus,” Guevara-Laforteza told Vogue Philippines. “She goes to Disneyland every day; she’s baking, she’s painting. She’s literally doing everything to get mentally well.”
Sophia’s hiatus came shortly after fellow KATSEYE member Manon also stepped away from group activities in February to focus on her health and well-being. The remaining members — Lara, Daniela, Yoonchae and Megan — have continued promoting the group’s latest music, including a brief appearance at Olivia Rodrigo’s Daisy Chain Fields festival on Aug. 29.
KATSEYE has emerged as a breakout global pop group, recently achieving its first No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with its EP WILD, which includes the Billboard Hot 100 tracks “Pinky Up” and “Gnarly.”
