Both people and animals can find themselves in all sorts of predicaments.
Such was the case recently for a coyote in southern Illinois.
The rather curious creature got itself tangled in a net along a fence in Clinton County, in the southwestern part of the state.
The coyote was stuck – unable to move at all.
Thankfully, the county sheriff came to the rescue.
The Clinton County Sheriff’s Office posted video on Facebook of the sheriff getting to work, using what appeared to be a knife to cut away the netting from around the coyote and free one of its trapped legs.
He even offered some words of encouragement.
“See if you let me cut you out, okay,” he said. “Okay, I’m going to grab a hold of your scruff. That’s it, my baby. That’s it, my baby.”
The sheriff then gave the coyote a few reassuring pats and lifted it up.
While it took some convincing, the coyote eventually got on its way.
“We’re happy to report that this wild guy is back on his way, and hopefully a little wiser about where he wanders!” the post read, in part.
The sheriff’s office used the touching moment as a way to take a playful dig at their leader.
“We all knew it, the Sheriff is a big softy!” their post ended.
