VENTURA COUNTY, Calif. (KEYT) – Armando Liborio De La Mora of Oxnard was sentenced to one year in county jail and domestic violence probation this week after attacking and threatening his partner after she called police in May of last year.
De La Mora pled guilty on June 18 of this year to two felony counts of inflicting corporal injury on a partner, one felony count of false imprisonment by violence, and misdemeanor counts of violating a protective order and disobeying a domestic relations court order detailed the Ventura County District Attorney's Office.
On May 19, 2025, De La Mora and his then-girlfriend were arguing at his residence when De La Mora blocked her form leaving and repeatedly slapped her before throwing a full, 40-ounce metal water bottle at her back noted local prosecutors.
According to the Ventura District Attorney's Office, the victim called police, but because she feared retaliation from De La Mora, did not speak with responding officers and when she returned inside, De La Mora confronted her about the police presence, threatened to kill her, and slid a kitchen knife under the bathroom door while she hid inside.
When the woman tried to leave, De La Mora took her phone, threw her to the ground and repeatedly punched and kicked her before she was able to escape through a back door and call a relative shared the local prosecutor's office.
Officers with the Oxnard Police Department responded to the scene and took De La Mora into custody while the woman was transported and treated at a local hospital for her injuries explained the Ventura County District Attorney's Office.
While in custody, De La Mora tried to contact the victim and after bailing out of jail, he approached the woman at a Ventura bar despite a restraining order prohibiting such activities noted the Ventura County District Attorney's Office.
"This was a serious and traumatic attack that will have a lasting effect on the victim," explained Deputy District Attorney Hyla Schneir. "She showed tremendous courage throughout this process, and we will continue to advocate for the safety and protection of domestic violence victims."
