If you still haven’t gotten over Pursuit of Jade but are ready for your next C-drama binge, Netflix’s The Early Spring may be exactly what you’re looking for.
The new workplace romance stars Sun Qian and Jing Boran, whose explosive chemistry—and surprisingly steamy scenes—have already generated plenty of conversation among viewers. The series is also reportedly the first mainland Chinese production to employ an intimacy coordinator.
Unlike romances that make viewers wait until the final few episodes for the leads to act on their feelings, The Early Spring wastes little time establishing the attraction between Shang Zhitao and Luan Nian. Their relationship is passionate, complicated and decidedly adult, although their romance unfolds alongside Zhitao’s determination to build a career of her own.
Here’s everything to know about The Early Spring, including its plot, cast, episode count and Netflix release schedule.

Why Is The Early Spring Getting So Much Attention?
The series made history as the first mainland Chinese production to use an intimacy coordinator. Intimacy Coordinators are a fairly new addition to the entertainment industry as a whole, becoming more mainstream after the Me Too movement in 2017. The coordinators are hired to ensure clear boundaries are set for intimate scenes, easing actor anxiety, and designing glances, touches, and movement with explicit intent rather than relying on standard, unguided physical tension. This allows for a more mature, realistic chemistry between the actors and their characters.
