Ike & Tina’s versatile interchange traversed genre like none before them – from folk and funk and country to deep soul, psych, and even musicals – while reinventing what a rock and roll performance could be via their onstage energy (and Tina’s leg-power dances for days).”
Both originally hailing from the American South, Ike from Clarksdale, Mississippi, and Tina from Nutbush, Tennessee, some of their most well-known work together includes timeless hits like “River Deep-Mountain High,” “Proud Mary,” and “Nutbush City Limits.”
They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1991, with the entity praising, “A charismatic bandleader and an unbridled whirlwind of sexual energy formed one of the most formidable live acts in history.”
