Two high-ranking officials within Swimming South Africa have been provisionally suspended by the Aquatics Integrity Unit (AQIU), an operationally independent unit of World Aquatics.
Alan Fritz, President of Swimming South Africa, and Shaun Adriaanse, Chief Executive Officer of Swimming South Africa, have both been suspended in connection with potential violations of the World Aquatics Integrity Code.
According to the AQIU release, this includes allegations of abuse of power and the provision of false information and fake documents.
During the suspension, both Fritz and Adriaanse are prohibited from h9olding any position within Swimming South Africa, Africa Aquatics, World Aquatics or any other recognized body. They are also prohibited from participating in or attending any aquatic-related activities, events, meetings or competitions, in any capacity.
Per a report on The Daily Maverick, a Swimming South Africa executive committee would schedule a meeting “within the next two days” to brief affiliates on the status of the matter or “as soon as further information becomes available”.
The executive committee also assured affiliates that it would “continue to manage everything in the best interest of All Our Members and Affiliates” and ensure there was “no disruption to current and future activities”.
