This series of posts will be made weekly on Chapelboro with a full schedule of UNC sports contests, both in Chapel Hill and elsewhere. Note that game times and broadcast information are subject to change due to inclement weather or other factors.

Fall sports are in full swing in the last full week of August. The men’s and women’s soccer teams have already begun their seasons, and the UNC football, volleyball and field hockey teams each begin their 2026 campaigns this week as well. This week sees multiple UNC teams travel across the pond to Dublin, Ireland, while others are on the road across the south.

Here’s a rundown of what’s going on in the world of Tar Heel sports:

Monday, Aug. 24

Monday night sees the men’s soccer team look to build off a strong opening result at No. 5 Georgetown last week. The Tar Heels will remain on the road to face Memphis, a team Carolina throttled in Chapel Hill last September. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m. Eastern time. TV channel: ESPN+

Friday, Aug. 28

Making a one-of-a-kind international trip, the women’s soccer team will travel to Dublin, Ireland to face the Irish professional side Shelbourne FC at Tolka Park. The match starts at 2 p.m. Eastern time (7 p.m. Ireland time).

Back stateside, Erin Matson and the field hockey team begin their quest for another championship in a high-powered clash against Michigan in the ACC-Big Ten Challenge on the campus of Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem. The game is scheduled to start at 3:30 p.m.

Finally, men’s soccer will play its home opener Friday night against VCU at Dorrance Field. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. TV channel: ACC Network Extra

Saturday, Aug. 29

In a game more than a year in the making, the football team will travel to Dublin, Ireland to face TCU in the Aer Lingus College Football Classic. Staged at the Aviva Stadium, the contest is scheduled to kick off at 12 p.m. Eastern time (5 p.m. Ireland time). The Tar Heels are looking to avenge a blowout loss at the hands of the Horned Frogs last September. Radio broadcast available on 97.9 The Hill. TV channel: ESPN

Also beginning its season Saturday is the No. 19 volleyball team, which will look to build on a strong 2025 season when it faces Davidson on the road. First serve is set for 2 p.m. TV channel: ESPN+

Sunday, Aug. 30

The field hockey team returns to action in Winston-Salem for the second game of the ACC Big-Ten Challenge. The Tar Heels will face Iowa at 11 a.m.

Volleyball will return from its short road trip to Davidson for its home opener at Carmichael Arena against UNC-Wilmington. First serve is set for 4 p.m. TV channel: ACC Network Extra
