Owen Lippoldt, a Futures finalist from Illinois, has sent his verbal commitment to Minnesota for the class of 2027.
“I am super excited to announce my commitment to University of Minnesota swim team! I am super grateful to the team and staff for considering me. GO gophers!”
Lippoldt is a rising senior at Oswego Co-Op High School in Oswego, Illinois, and he trains club with the Fox Valley Swim Team.
He recently raced at the 2026 USA Swimming Futures Championships in Madison where he finished 6th in the 50 free (23.07), 17th in the 100 free (51.92), 14th in the 50 back (26.66), and 10th in the 100 back (57.12).
At the 2026 Illinois Boys High School State Championships, he finished 3rd in the 50 free (20.32), and 8th in the 100 free (45.26) after setting a personal best 44.71 in the prelims.

50 Free — 20.27 100 Free — 44.71 200 Free — 1:39.71 100 Back — 50.01Minnesota competes in the Big Ten Conference, where they recently finished 8th at the 2026 Championships, scoring 644 points to come in about 60 points behind USC’s 707.5 in 7th.
Lippoldt sits outside of Big Ten scoring in his events, but he has another year to improve before he arrives on campus.
On last season’s team, his 50 free would have been 5th, his 100 free would have been 6th, and his 200 free would have been 8th. He has steadily improved over the last few years, and if he can drop under 20 seconds in the 50 free, he could be a relay piece for the Gophers as a freshman.
