Penn State has added Division II champion Jackson Lustig to its staff as an assistant coach. Lustig spent his collegiate career at McKendree where he spent this past season as a graduate assistant coach.
Lustig finished his swimming career at McKendree at the 2025 NCAA Championships where he swam to NCAA titles in the 100 and 200 butterfly events. He touched in a lifetime best 45.85 100 fly and a 1:40.89 200 fly. His 200 fly win defended his title from 2023 and 2024. His 2023 win included an NCAA record 1:40.75.
In 2024, he also helped McKendree to a Division II NCAA record in the 400 medley relay as he split a 45.85 on the butterfly leg.
After finishing his swimming career, Lustig remained at McKendree this past season as a graduate assistant coach. There he helped coach the team’s distance group which included Vova Gavrysh who swam to an NCAA Division II Record 1:32.40 200 free. The McKendree men finished 6th overall at the 2026 NCAA Division II Championships.
The Penn State women were 13th out of 14 teams at the 2026 Women’s Big Ten Championships while the men’s program was 9th out of nine teams. The women moved down one spot from 2025 while the men were also 9th out of nine teams back in 2025.
Lustig is the latest addition to the staff as Mike Smiechowski joined the staff earlier this summer as an associate head coach while Patrick Hemmingway joined the staff as an assistant coach back in May. The program enters its 3rd season under head coach Hollie Bonewit-Cron.
