Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty received a phone call on Friday, August 14, 2026, from Cypriot Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos.

The call focused on ways to advance Egyptian-Cypriot relations in light of the close partnership and continued coordination between the two countries.

The two ministers praised the growing momentum in relations between Egypt and Cyprus, as reflected in the channels of consultation between the two countries and their shared commitment to building on the progress achieved in recent years and taking bilateral cooperation to broader horizons, particularly in the economic, investment and energy sectors.

Abdelatty stressed the importance of continuing efforts to implement the agreements and memoranda of understanding signed between the two countries, translating the strength of their political relations into tangible joint projects and shared interests.

He also underscored the need to expedite the implementation of the memorandum of understanding on the employment of Egyptian workers in Cyprus.

Abdelatty further stressed the importance of continuing to develop the trilateral cooperation mechanism among Egypt, Cyprus and Greece, describing it as a successful model of regional coordination.

He called for expanding cooperation in the economic, trade, investment, energy and tourism sectors, while enhancing the role of the private sector in capitalizing on the promising opportunities offered by the partnership among the three countries.

Regarding regional developments, the two ministers exchanged views and assessments on the latest developments in the region and efforts to contain the escalation and prevent the conflict from spreading.

Abdelatty outlined Egypt’s intensive efforts and diplomatic contacts to support de-escalation efforts and promote political settlements to regional crises, stressing that the current stage requires intensified diplomatic action and concerted regional and international efforts to prevent the region from sliding into new cycles of instability.

Regarding developments related to Iran, the two ministers agreed on the importance of maintaining communication and coordination to support efforts aimed at resolving the existing disputes through diplomatic means.

They urged all parties to continue pursuing negotiations and mediation and to avoid military escalation, given the potentially serious repercussions for regional security and stability, as well as energy security, freedom of navigation, supply chains and international trade.
