WARREN — The Trumbull County Board of Elections certified all issues and liquor options, except one, to the Nov. 3 ballot.
The board met Tuesday to approve all of the issues and all but one liquor option.
The board ruled that an option for the Sunday on-premise sale of wine, mixed beverages and spirituous liquor for Loom Lodge 0186 Trumbull in Warren Precinct 4F did not have enough valid signatures.
It will not appear on the Nov. 3 ballot.
A Monday-Saturday liquor option for the on-premise sale of beer, wine, mixed beverages and spirituous liquor by Eastside Girl in Niles Precinct 3C nearly didn’t make the ballot.
The business was 10 valid signatures shy of getting certified.
The business brought in affidavits to Tuesday’s elections board meeting from 11 people who printed their names, rather than using cursive, attesting that they signed the petitions.
The board routinely disqualifies those who print their names on petitions unless affidavits are presented with people swearing that is how they sign their names.
The affidavits were enough to convince the board of elections to certify the liquor option to the Nov. 3 ballot.
With the board’s Tuesday vote, the Nov. 3 ballot will include 21 tax issues — 19 renewals and additional levy requests for McDonald for police, fire and EMS services, and for Harding Park in Hubbard Township — as well as five liquor options and a number of referendums, ordinances and questions.
The latter includes a citizen initiative to ban data centers in Hubbard, Lordstown seeking permission to use the village’s 0.5% fire department income tax to build a new fire station, a citizen initiative to repeal pay raises for Warren City Council members and eliminating all automatic increases for elected officials that was approved in 2023 by council, a proposed zoning referendum in Greene Township, gas aggregation in Newton Township, and electric and gas aggregation in Southington.
Aug. 6 was the filing deadline for the various issues and options.
