HBO has officially renewed House of the Dragon for a season 4, which will bring the Targaryen civil war adapted from George RR Martin's Fire and Blood to a close.
Showrunner Ryan Condal has said the writing team has already made significant progress on season 4, with scripts being turned over to HBO ahead of production.

Showrunner Condal has confirmed that he's finished the scripts for season 4.
He also previously opened up to Radio Times about the pressures of ending the series after the less-than-positive reaction to the final instalment of Game of Thrones.
"Because everybody by that point, many years on down the road, are going to have their own idea of where the show should and/or what it should be," he explained.
"And that's our challenge as adapters, and, you know, I'm willing to take it on - but yes, it is... that lurks in the back of my mind, for sure."

With HBO confirming season 4 as the final season, it is set to bring the conflict between Rhaenyra Targaryen and the Hightower faction to its conclusion.
