The Reds have released infielder/outfielder Sam Haggerty, per his MLB.com transaction tracker. He had been with their Triple-A affiliate in Louisville.
A former Met and Mariner, Haggerty missed most of 2024 with an Achilles tear and then joined the Rangers on a minor league contract. Haggerty did not crack the Rangers’ Opening Day roster in 2025, but they summoned him to the bigs in May. He went on to hit a playable .253/.328/.370 (98 wRC+) with two home runs and a dozen stolen bases over 64 games and 182 plate appearances.
While the Rangers saw enough positives to tender Haggerty a $1.25MM contract during the offseason, they cut ties in early June after he slumped to a .159/.213/.182 line and a 12 wRC+ in 47 homer-less trips to the plate. The 32-year-old also posted an inflated 34% strikeout rate, approximately 10 points higher than his career mark.
Haggerty caught on with the Reds on a minors pact a week after the Rangers released him. Although he owns a respectable lifetime line of .289/.375/.451 in 749 Triple-A plate appearances, his numbers with the Reds’ top affiliate fell well short. Haggerty stepped to the plate 99 times, went down on strikes at a 27.3% clip and batted a meek .205/.293/.273 with one HR as a member of the Bats. Going by wRC+, Haggerty’s output was 46 percent worse than the league average.
In another Reds move, they have added 34-year-old left-hander Kent Emanuel on a minors deal, according to his transaction tracker. This is the soft-tossing ground-ball pitcher’s first contract with an MLB organization since he was with the Marlins in 2024. Emanuel divided last year between the Mexican League and High Point of the Atlantic League. He continued to pitch with High Point this season until the Reds scooped him up.
Also a former Astro, Emanuel has pitched 35 1/3 innings of 4.58 ERA ball in the majors. Over a much larger sample of 409 1/3 Triple-A frames, including a significant portion in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League, the 34-year-old carries a 5.21 ERA.
