Following directives from President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty met on Friday, August 7, 2026, with Chadian President Mahamat Idriss Déby to discuss ways of strengthening bilateral relations.
The meeting was attended by Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Transport Kamel al-Wazir and Minister of Higher Education and Acting Minister of Culture Abdelaziz Konsowa.
Abdelatty conveyed President Sisi’s greetings to the Chadian president and delivered a written message from the Egyptian president addressing ways to develop bilateral relations, enhance the strategic partnership between the two countries, continue coordination on regional and international issues of mutual interest, and invite Chad to participate in the El Alamein Africa Business Forum on the sidelines of the African Union Mid-Year Coordination Summit on October 4 in the city of El Alamein.
For his part, the Chadian president requested that his greetings and appreciation be conveyed to President Sisi, praising the depth of Egyptian-Chadian relations and fruitful cooperation across various fields.
He also commended the constructive role played by President Sisi in leading mediation efforts to reduce escalation and support security and stability in the Middle East and the African continent.
During the meeting, the foreign minister expressed Egypt’s great appreciation for the nature and uniqueness of Egyptian-Chadian relations, praising the outcomes of the fourth session of the joint committee between the two countries, which witnessed the signing of several agreements and represented a new milestone in strengthening bilateral ties.
He highlighted the commitment to enhancing cooperation between the two sides and building on achievements.
He praised the significant level of cooperation between the two countries in the military field, as well as in infrastructure, stressing the importance of transferring Egyptian technology and expertise to the Chadian side, especially in road construction, maintenance, and recycling materials used in existing roads.
In the same context, Abdel Ghaffar reviewed aspects of health cooperation between the two countries, referring to Egyptian medical convoys and health projects implemented in Chad.
For his part, Wazir reviewed the main areas of cooperation in transport and infrastructure, particularly the land connectivity project between Egypt and Chad through Libya.
Konsowa highlighted scholarships provided to Chadian students and the development taking place at the Alexandria University branch in Chad.
He noted that new programs such as nursing, engineering, and computer science will be added to the university, which will have a regional role in providing services to students from Central and West African countries.
The meeting also witnessed an exchange of views on key regional issues of mutual interest, particularly developments in the Sahel and Sahara region and the situation in Sudan.
