In Time Trials on the final day of the 2026 U.S. Nationals, Kate Douglass dropped a monster 51.93 in the women’s 100 free, becoming the 5th woman in history to break 52 seconds and the 4th fastest performer of all time.

Douglass scratched her 50 freestyle prelims this morning, where she was the 2nd seed to world record holder Gretchen Walsh, choosing to focus on this Time Trial instead, and it worked out in her favor.

She is now the 2nd fastest American in history, only behind teammate and American record holder Anna Moesch, who swam 51.88 to win the 100 free on night one of the meet. She also moves up to the 4th fastest performer all-time, behind world record holder Marrit Steenbergen, Sarah Sjostrom, and Moesch, surpassing Australia’s Emma McKeon.
