The band has sold more than 100 million records worldwide, earned Diamond certifications for both Pyromania and Hysteria, and became one of only five rock bands with two original studio albums selling more than 10 million copies each in the United States. In 2019, Elliott and his bandmates were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame by Queen guitarist Brian May.
"After you have a hit like Hysteria and you're signed to the corporate machine it becomes an albatross around your neck," Elliott said. "As much as our music is anthemic rock'n'roll it's a business at the end of the day. It's stressful and gets harder each time you make a record. No one's comparing this to Hysteria, it's got nothing to do with it. It's a refreshing change. It's like being a teenager in a 50-year-old body."
Elliott isn't slowing down, either. Def Leppard released the single "Rejoice" in January 2026 as the first taste of the band's upcoming 13th studio album, which is expected in early 2027. Nearly five decades after joining the group as a teenager, the only original singer of one of rock's biggest bands is still making new music.
