The Denver Broncos have three key players who are entering contract years, and all three of those names made big plays during Day 3 of training camp. Riley Moss, Evan Engram, and Marvin Mims headline key standouts from today’s practice.
Denver Broncos Day 3 Training Camp Practice Recap
Evan Engram is entering the last year of his deal with the Denver Broncos as the 2026 season approaches. After signing a two-year deal last year, the Broncos didn’t quite utilize him the way he envisioned, but he never once pouted or complained. He just put his head down and worked despite playing a career-low percentage of snaps.

Going back to OTAs and minicamp, it was apparent that the offense was looking to involve him a little bit more than they did last season and we saw him targeted often ahead of the team’s break prior to training camp. During Friday’s practice, Engram made two big plays in the passing game that helped earn him some standout marks on the afternoon.
Jarrett Stidham connected with Engram on a deep crossing pattern and used his speed after the catch to run away for a touchdown.
“I think he can definitely be a big asset for us,” Sean Payton said of Engram after practice. “I think one of his strengths is he can run, and I think it’s good that he’s getting these reps along with the younger guys.”
He caught another deep pass from Sam Ehlinger a handful of plays later to end the first team period of the afternoon.
Marvin Mims is another name who is entering the final year of his rookie deal as the first-ever draft selection of the George Paton and Sean Payton duo back in the 2023 NFL Draft.
Mims caught several passes on the afternoon — one in 7-on-7, a pass from Stidham in the second team period, and then the play of the day from Bo Nix on a deep shot down in front of the fans in attendance, getting a step on Riley Moss and tracking the football perfectly to secure the catch.
In the team’s final period of the day, a move-the-ball emphasis with an end-of-half scenario, Mims came up with a clutch catch from Nix on 3rd and 5 right over Patrick Surtain II, and got out of bounds with three seconds remaining, which would have set up an end-of-half Wil Lutz field goal in a real game.
Mims has always demonstrated the ability to be explosive and to come up clutch when called upon.
[WR] Marvin [Mims Jr.] has been very consistent,” Payton said. “If you just looked about when we’ve called on him for those opportunities, he’s come down with a lot of plays.”The challenge for Denver’s current group of skill players is that the wide receiver room is so deep with names like Courtland Sutton, Jaylen Waddle, Mims, Troy Franklin, Pat Bryant, and Lil’Jordan Humphrey, even with Engram at the tight end position — there are a lot of mouths to feed and a lot of touches to go around.
Riley Moss isn’t afraid of being challenged
Riley Moss has one of the most difficult tasks of any player in the NFL, playing opposite Patrick Surtain II. Over the course of the last two seasons, Moss has seen 221 targets. He was tied for the NFL lead in 2025 in passes defended with 19.
Even if Riley gives up one catch, he’s going to go back out there and make two plays. During Friday’s practice, Moss had himself a heckuva day. In Denver’s first team period, he drew a one-on-one assignment against Courtland Sutton on a vertical route, and did a great job of getting in phase to Sutton’s hip pocket, timing his jump perfectly and knocking Bo Nix’s pass to Sutton away to force an incompletion.
On the very next play, Denver’s defense, led by Justin Strnad, pressured Nix to get rid of the ball, and he had Pat Bryant open for a brief moment before Moss jumped the play and nearly intercepted it.
Even though he gave up an explosive catch to Mims later on in practice, Moss always finds a way to respond. As a corner, you have to have a short memory and move on to the next play, and that’s something he’s demonstrated time and time again.
Denver Broncos news and notes and other standouts from Friday’s practice
The only players who were not spotted in attendance for today’s practice were wide receiver Joseph Manjack, outside linebacker Drew Sanders, and tight end Caleb Lohner.
Manjack and Sanders were both present during Thursday’s final acclimation practice, but Sean Payton did not provide an update, as he does not discuss injuries.
Linebacker Jordan Turner and offensive lineman Nick Gargiulo continued to work with trainers on the side field as they both look to return at some point during training camp.
Second-year linebacker Karene Reid forced a fumble during one of the team periods after Michael Bandy secured a catch. Reid also recovered the ball. Undrafted rookie linebacker Red Murdock had one play on the afternoon where he generated pressure on Sam Ehlinger and likely would have sacked him if it were in a real game.
Lil’Jordan Humphrey stacked an impressive third day in a row, hauling in a tough catch from Stidham while Sean Fresch Jr. was in coverage.
Bo Nix continues to look sharp through three days, having strong showings in 7-on-7, the team’s third period of the day, and in their move-the-ball, end-of-half scenario.
Day 4 of camp takes place on Saturday for the NFL’s Back Together Weekend.
