We’ve got six individual events on the docket this morning, followed by both the men’s and women’s 4×100 medley relays.
The women will get us started with the preliminary heats of the 200 breast, in which a number of familiar faces are set to appear. All three of the medalists in the women’s 100 breast are back in action; Angharad Evans is the #1 seed in the event and will look to put herself in a position to earn another breaststroke gold, having won the 100 breast. Aimee Canny and Sienna Toohey, who won silver and bronze respectively in the 100, are also top seeds heading into the event.
The men’s 200 free promises to deliver on the excitement. 2024 Olympic silver medalist Matt Richards of Wales will be vying for the top spot with 2022 Commonwealth champion Duncan Scott of Scotland, while Australia’s Sam Short will also be applying pressure from his spot as the #3 seed. Also posing a threat are the likes of Lewis Clareburt, James Guy and Kai Taylor, all of whom rank within the top 15 in the world so far this season.
Only 13 swimmers are set to take to the water in the women’s 200 fly, and the Australians look to have a strong foothold in the smaller field. Lizzy Dekkers is the top seed heading into the event, closely followed by Brittany Castelluzzo, while Jessica Cole will also be looking to press her way into the final. Other key names jostling for a comfortable spot in the top eight include England’s Emily Richards and Scotland’s Keanna Macinnes.
The slowest heat of the men’s 1500 free will be swum this morning, as will the final two para events of the meet (the men’s 50 free S7 and the women’s 100 free S9) before we head into the relays.
