Tyler Hubbard had a family summer vacation that he’ll never forget, and not for a good reason. The Florida Georgia Line and solo country singer revealed in an Instagram post titled “Breakfast had to wait” on Sunday (July 26) that his wife, Hayley, had to step up and perform a minor medical intervention on the 39-year-old star during a recent family camping trip when a fishing hook got stuck on the back of his skull.

The pair were on vacation with their three kids, Olivia Rose, 8. Luca Reed, 6 and Atlas Roy, 5, when the singer called on his wife to give a hand removing the lure. “Wow, those little barbs really work,” Hayley can be heard saying in the clip as she tries to get her fingers around the hook buried deep in the back of her husband’s head.
“Yup,” he says with a wince as the video freezes and a needle-scratch sound bubbles up. “Yup, that’s me. You’re probably wondering how I ended up in this situation,” Hubbard says in voice-over as the video goes back to live and one of the boys asks, “is it bleeding mom?”
“Probably not bleeding a lot, but it might be a little,” Tyler assures them as the camera pans to the hook with a colorful, fringed skirt prominently sticking out of his shoulder-length hair. “Just getting my bearings here, are there any tricks to this?” Hayley asks as she gently tugs on the hook while one of the kids not-so-helpfully observes, “oh, it’s like a big hook!”
“Dad, just don’t think about it!” one of the boys counsels as Hayley works the hook out, assuring her hubby that he’s doing great and being “so brave.” She keeps working at it and at one point says she needs a break as the kids keep asking him how bad it hurts — for the record, Tyler says it “kinda does” — before she goes in one last time with a pair of pliers and gets Tyler unhooked.
Hayley later posted a highlight video of the trip cued to her husband’s solo song “Land,” featuring video of the kids fishing with their dogs, swimming, boating and spotting a bald eagle, Tyler prepping some lures, as well as her emergency hook removal. The caption says it all, “We got 4 days off with @tylerhubbard in the middle of this crazy summer and decided to go camping in the airstream. All the memories made were worth the shlepping and loading up and unpacking and fun that comes along with camping. next time we’ll try to avoid fish hooks in the head ??️ ?.”
After breaking up in 2022 following more than a decade together, Florida Georgia Line — which also includes singer Brian Kelley — recently teased a reunion. Hubbard told Chicago’s US99 country radio station that the pair have “some things in the works for the next year. We’re excited … We’re kind of itching to get back on stage, so we’ll probably put some shows together next year. That’s about as much as we’ve planned at this point. We’re both excited. It’s gonna be a fun year next year.”
After debuting in 2010, FGL scored a string of Billboard Hot 100 hits, including 2017’s Bebe Rexha collab “Meant to Be” (No. 2), “Cruise” (No. 4) and “Dirt” (No. 11), among others before the pair split to pursue solo careers. At press time there was still no official word on what FGL has planned for this year following their surprise performance at this year’s CMA Fest in Nashville in June.
