Over the weekend, Kay Adams teased Caleb Williams’ appearance on The Up & Adams Show. And with it, dropped a snippet of a clip in which the Chicago Bears quarterback gushes about one of his favorite wide receiver targets.
Check it out:
the @EAMaddenNFL cover star (out Aug 13 ?) joins me tomorrow on @UpAndAdamsShow. ???I'll post the full on YouTube tomorrow at 8am ET so get there. Back to work.? Also – guess which player Caleb Williams is talking about … ? ??? pic.twitter.com/PVoY8AjJo0
— Kay Adams (@heykayadams) July 26, 2026In theory, this could be about any of the Bears’ pass catchers. Rome Odunze? Sure, I can see it. Rome and Caleb have a unique connection. Colston Loveland? Yeah, maybe. You wouldn’t have to work too hard to convince me that QB1 is talking about TE1 here.
However, it is Luther Burden III who Caleb Williams is talking about in that mystery clip. The complete quote from Williams:
“He makes the first guy miss every time. That’s his trait. He catches everything. Easy passes. Hard passes. He’s a friendly receiver, what we call it as a QB. His route running and things like that, he’s super friendly. And when you get the ball in his hands, he makes that first player miss quite often.”
As if I couldn’t be more fired up about the year ahead, we’ve got the Caleb Williams-Luther Burden III relationship blossoming in front of our very eyes.
Chicago Bears WR Luther Burden. | Kyle Terada-Imagn ImagesI’m not sure whether to file this under “Favorite Caleb Williams Stats” or “Favorite Luther Burden III Stats” … but I’m going to share it anyway. Here are Williams’ numbers targeting Burden last year:
46/59 (78% completions) 651 yards (11.0 yards/attempt) 2 touchdowns 0 interceptions 123.9 passer ratingCan you see why Williams speaks so highly of Burden?
Bears QB Caleb Williams Appears on “Up & Adams Show” with Kay Adams
Among the many things Caleb Williams discusses with Kay Adams is the confirmation that the iconic jump throw is in the Madden NFL ’27 game. To which I say, “Good!” If you’ve been playing Madden for long enough, then you probably remember the John Madden “If it’s in the game, it’s in the game” soundbite. The real ones know what I’m talking about.

As for the Luther Burden III head nod, you can add Bear quarterback Caleb Williams to the list of folks who have me believing that the second-year wide receiver is on the cusp of a huge year. Burden had his breakout in the second half of his rookie season, coming up big down the stretch — especially when Rome Odunze was out because he was dealing with a troublesome foot injury.
2026 BEARS TRAINING CAMP PREVIEW: LUTHER BURDEN III, ROME ODUNZE, AND THE WIDE RECEIVERS
Burden was at his best when the Bears needed him to turn the corner. Starting with that Black Friday win against the Philadelphia Eagles, the Mizzou product was targeted 37 times, caught 28 passes, and racked up 403 receiving yards. And because I know you’re curious, this is what those numbers would come out to over a full 17-game season:
105 targets 80 catches 1,141 receiving yards 3 touchdownsThe big number that might stand out to some above is that Burden scored only one touchdown. You’d like to see him find paydirt more often given the number of targets and his projected importance to the offense moving forward. However, Burden’s ability to generate big plays and move the chains was valuable to the team’s offensive efforts. We will need more of that in 2026.
