"We did not fully grasp the seriousness of her physical conditions. We never intended to hurt her," Whitney read on the podcast. "That was not our intention. She perished shortly after she was taken. We believe it was heart related. She is buried in nature now. Nothing you could have done could have changed the outcome. We are truly sorry."The message appears to reference Guthrie's known medical conditions. The FBI has previously said Guthrie had mobility issues, relied on heart medication, and had a pacemaker to help regulate her heartbeat.
This was one of two ransom notes sent to Arizona news organizations in the days following Guthrie's disappearance. Whitney also read the first ransom note in full during the episode, giving listeners their first opportunity to hear both messages in their entirety.
Anyone with information about the Guthrie case is asked to call Tucson’s 88-Crime hotline at 1-520-882-7463 or the FBI at 1-800-CALL-FBI.
