July 24th – July 29th 2026 (pool swimming) Tollcross International Swimming Centre, Glasgow, Scotland LCM (50m) All the LinksSwimming action at the 2026 Commonwealth Games gets underway tomorrow, Friday, July 24th with veterans and newcomers from around the world descending upon Glasgow, Scotland.
Falling into the former category is 34-year-old Olympic champion Chad le Clos of South Africa and 28-year-old Olympic champion Kyle Chalmers of Australia, with both entering the competition with a chance to make history.
For le Clos, the butterfly ace is impressively heading to his sixth Commonwealth Games.
He has amassed 18 medals since 2010, currently sharing the most ever won by a male with shooters Phillip Adams of Australia and Mick Gault of England. Should le Clos surge to any tier of the podium, he would stand alone with a remarkable 19 pieces of hardware across his entire Commonwealth Games career.
Speaking to Glasgow 2026, le Clos said he will draw “inspiration” from that competition when he returns to Tollcross International Swimming Centre.
“That was an unbelievable event,” le Clos said.
“Like then, I have my parents and some friends coming to watch me and that will be incredible, because to be honest I don’t need swimming any more but I love it so much and I just love competing.
“This is probably my last Commonwealth Games and I’m driven by legacy, so I’d be lying if I said that the record wasn’t in the back of my mind.
“There’s so much in my career that I’m thankful for, but it’s not over yet. I’m pushing for it (the record) and think I have a shot.”
As for speedster Chalmers, the South Australian is heading to his third Commonwealth Games, looking to add to his current tally of nine medals, with seven of them golden.
He is within striking distance of Olympic icon Ian Thorpe, the man who represents the most decorated Aussie male swimmer at the Commonwealth Games with 10 gold medals across Kuala Lumpur in 1998 and Manchester in 2002.
“I’m definitely well aware where I sit in in that medal count, so it would be an honour to surpass the greatest male that’s ever swum for Australia at a Commonwealth Games,” Chalmers told Glasgow 2026.
“It’s harder now, being away from my daughter when I go to championships,” new father Chalmers said. “But being with the team motivates me. We’re capable of something really special, particularly on the opening night (in the Men’s 4x100m Freestyle Relay).
“I’ve been able to achieve so many great things in my career and if I’m able to do it (beat Thorpe’s record total), it would be the icing on the cake. But I’m not stressing about it.”
