2026 Commonwealth Games

July 24th – July 29th (pool swimming) Glasgow, Scotland Tollcross International Swimming Centre LCM (50m) Meet Central Preview Index Psych Sheets

With the psych sheets for the 2026 Commonwealth Games having been published on the competition’s official website today, we’ve been combing through to identify surprises, anomalies and absences among the powerhouse nations.

Falling into the latter category is Australian Tommy Neill, with the 24-year-old originally having been announced as part of the Dolphins’ roster for Glasgow; however, he was indeed missing from the entries for his sole individual event of the 200m IM.

Swimming World reported that Neill suffered a hand injury on the eve of the team’s departure from its training base in Darmstadt.

Swimming Australia Head Coach Rohan Taylor reportedly confirmed to the site Neill’s late withdrawal, saying he would be out of the water for several weeks.

The remaining Aussies entered in the 200m IM include William Petric and Olympic medalist Brendon Smith, with the former currently ranked 9th in the world and the top Commonwealth athlete this season.

In addition to making a run at potential hardware in the 200m IM, Neill would have most likely also been a key contributor on the Aussie men’s 4x200m free relay, an event in which he has accumulated two Olympic medals. He swam the relay both in Tokyo and Paris where the squad ultimately earned the bronze medal in each Games.

Neill’s announcement comes after World Record holder and multi-Olympic champion Kaylee McKeown already revealed she would be missing the Commonwealth Games due to mononucleosis (‘glandular fever’).

Although she is indeed competing, Olympic medalist Shayna Jack revealed she would be hanging up her goggles, retiring from competitive swimming following Glasgow.
