News by : (Parade) -

Born on July 18, 1980, in Huntington Woods, Michigan, Bell studied musical theater at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts. While she was in college she made her Broadway debut as as Becky Thatcher in the musical The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. Her breakthrough came in 2004 when she landed the title role in Veronica Mars. From there, she went on to star in Forgetting Sarah Marshall, The Good Place, Frozen, and, most recently, the Netflix hit Nobody Wants This, earning Emmy and Golden Globe nominations along the way.

Eventually, she started booking guest spots and co-star roles, but the lead she desperately wanted remained out of reach. She even joked that she would negotiate with the universe every night, promising to reduce her carbon footprint if she could just land a starring role.

Despite achieving her biggest professional goal, she wasn't happy. "I had it all," she recalled, "and I was lonelier than I had ever been."

Everything changed when her Veronica Mars co-star Ryan Hansen invited her to his birthday party. Looking back, Bell realized he wasn't simply inviting her to celebrate his birthday. He was inviting her into his community, his circle of friends, and ultimately into a life that extended far beyond the television set. Those friendships remain some of her closest relationships today.

It's a lesson that feels especially relevant today. We spend so much time chasing the next promotion, the bigger paycheck, or the accomplishment that will finally make us feel successful. But as Bell discovered, those achievements can still leave us feeling empty if we don't have meaningful relationships to share them with.

Quote of the day by Kristen Bell

"My soul trick to share with you is when you listen—when you really listen to people, when you listen as fiercely as you want to be heard, when you respect the idea that you are sharing the earth with other humans, when you lead with your nice foot forward, you'll win every time."

It's a powerful reminder that success isn't measured only by what's on a résumé. It's also measured by the lives we touch, the friendships we nurture, and the kindness we extend to others. As Bell discovered, landing your dream job may change your career. Finding your tribe can change your life.
