GENEVA, N.Y. — The former assistant principal at Geneva High School has pleaded guilty to endangering the welfare of a child and has been permanently banned from teaching in New York State.
A judge this week ordered James Junior Nunez to be put on interim probation supervision for a year. If he violates the terms of his probation, he will go before the court for sentencing.
As News10NBC has covered, court documents allege that Nunez went up to a student, put his arm around the boy’s head, similar to a headlock, and kissed him in the area of his cheek or neck. Geneva Police says it happened at the high school on Nov. 18. News10NBC spoke to a parent who alleged that Nunez “put his lips on my son” at the school.
The Ontario County District Attorney’s Office says it has been in communication with the victim’s mother throughout the case, and she’s satisfied with the outcome.
“She indicated she was satisfied with the negotiated disposition, as it permanently prevents the defendant from teaching in New York State—her primary concern throughout the case,” said the DA’s office in a statement.
Nunez had no prior criminal history. The district put Nunez on administrative leave after the allegations, and he later resigned.
