Schedule Changes? IceHogs Schedule Drop, Canes Cup Fiasco, and Other Blackhawks Bullets ...Middle East

You can’t necessarily pick the timing of some initiatives to be perfect. Or… even ideal. And Wednesday was a tough one for the Blackhawks with the announcement that Connor Bedard is going to miss four months because of shoulder surgery. That didn’t stop veteran defenseman Ian Cole from meeting the media (via Zoom) for the first time or the Blackhawks’ ticketing folks from sending out an intriguing email.

As Ben Pope shared on Twitter, the Blackhawks sent a survey to season ticket members asking about preferred start times for games. It looks like 7:30 as the default might be open to some debate (which would be awesome). What would your ideal start time be? Let us know in the comments! (And no, Sept. 2028 isn’t an option.)

Source: Twitter / @BenPopeCST Here’s a fun piece of news: the 16th annual NHLPA Rookie Showcase (where Upper Deck takes action shots of the league’s top rookies for their first hockey cards) will take place in Chicago this year. It’s been in Washington, DC for as long as I can remember. The list of players participating hasn’t been released yet, but I would assume at least Anton Frondell would be there for the Blackhawks. Mark Lazerus and Scott Powers at The Athletic put together their potential lineup(s) for the Blackhawks with and without Bedard. Feel free to compare their projections to my thoughts after we learned Bedard won’t be available to start the season.

— Mark Lazerus (@MarkLazerus) July 9, 2026 Mike Gould at Daily Faceoff listed the Blackhawks as a potential trade partner with the Seattle Kraken for center Shane Wright. My one big issue with his write-up on the hypothetical fit is here:

“in Chicago, it’s safe to say he’d get significantly more responsibility and compete with the less experienced Frank Nazar and Anton Frondell for a plum spot on the depth chart.”

Nazar was drafted nine (9) spots after Wright in 2022 and has only ten fewer career points (68) than Wright (78) despite playing 47 fewer games. I’m not sure I would necessarily characterize that as “less experienced” to the degree Wright would somehow make more sense for the Blackhawks as a center. Yesterday, I joined Paul Shaheen for a Smoke Filled Room episode of his ROI the Podcast to talk about the Blackhawks, Bedard’s injury and some other NHL news. The Rockford IceHogs released their 2026-27 regular-season schedule on Thursday afternoon!

— Rockford IceHogs (@goicehogs) July 9, 2026 Former Blackhawks forward Steve Sullivan was named the new head coach of the Toronto Marlies. The Toronto Maple Leafs parted ways with assistant general managers Darryl Metcalf and Hayley Wickenheiser, director of amateur scouting Mark Leach, and senior adviser for player personnel Dave Morrison. They had previously moved on from front office members Brandon Pridham, Shane Doan and Derek Clancey. It appears new general manager John Chayka is going to have the entire staff be his hires. The Carolina Hurricanes shared this first image of the team’s names engraved on the Stanley Cup. There was some controversy, however. You might notice a lot of people at the top of the list with the last name Dundon. Yeah, that’s the owner’s entire family. And a few people whose names should have been on there were missing. According to Jeff Marek, the Hockey Hall of Fame did not see the names before they went on the Cup and immediately contacted the organization. Whelp…
