Despite Some Turnover, the Bears Offensive Line Should Be Really Good Again in 2026 ...Middle East

Sport by : (Bleacher Nation) -

Over my lifetime as a Chicago Bears fan, there haven’t been many times when we’ve been able to call the offensive line a massive strength of the team. For the most part, I’ve seen a whole lot of average to slightly below-average units with the occasional good or bad one.

But as we head into the 2026 NFL season with massive expectations for our Chicago Bears, not only can we look at the offensive line as a strength of this team, but some are going as far as calling it the strength of this team

ESPN’s Mike Clay lists the Chicago Bears’ offensive line as their biggest strength going into the 2026 NFL season. This is what he had to say about that group:

After allowing a league-high 68 sacks in 2024, Chicago overhauled its offensive line during the 2025 offseason. It certainly paid off, as the Bears led the NFL in pass block win rate (73.6%) and finished fifth in run block win rate (73.5%) last season. Standout guards Joe Thuney and Jonah Jackson return for 2026, as does right tackle Darnell Wright. Garrett Bradbury was acquired to replace the retired Drew Dalman at center. Projected starting left tackle Ozzy Trapilo tore his patellar in January and might miss the season, but veteran Braxton Jones was brought back to keep things afloat.

Will the Offensive Line Be a Strength for the 2026 Chicago Bears?

Will the Bears’ offensive line be the strength for this team when the season kicks off in September? That’s hard to say. This offense has quarterback Caleb Williams returning, a top tight end in the league in Colston Loveland, and a wide receiver group that we’re all very high on going into this season.

But will it be a strength? Right now, I would say absolutely. There was some turnover from last year after Drew Dalman’s surprise retirement and Ozzy Trapilo’s injury. Now the center position will be manned by some combination of Garrett Bradbury and rookie Logan Jones. Meanwhile, left tackle, we assume, will be Braxton Jones.

NEW BEARS OFFENSIVE LINEMEN: Garrett Bradbury | Logan Jones

With those changes, I’m not sure I’m ready to call this group better than the one that was one of the league’s top units in 2025. However, I would still absolutely call it a strength of this football. team. Though he’s 33, left guard Joe Thuney is arguably still the best guard in the NFL. Right guard Jonah Jackson looked more like the former Pro Bowler after staying healthy in 2025. Darnell Wright is one of the NFL’s top tackles. So if those three look like they did last year, they can afford a little grace period for the new starters at center and left tackle.

And let’s not forget, before his ankle injury at the end of 2024, Braxton Jones was a more-than-solid NFL tackle. Last season, it seemed like at every turn we were hearing how Jones hadn’t fully healed, wasn’t healthy, and that Ben Johnson wasn’t too sure about him. This offseason, it’s been crickets. That, to me, suggests the coaching staff is much more comfortable with Jones’ health. And if he can return to the player he was before the 2024 injury, or somewhere close to it, this unit has a chance to be one of the league’s best again.

For me, the main storyline on the offensive line when camp rolls around will be at center. All the offensive line experts on social media will tell you that Garrett Bradbury isn’t very good, and his PFF numbers aren’t either. But thus far, granted the small sample size of offseason workouts, the coaching staff has had no issues with him, and he did start for the AFC Championship-winning New England Patriots last year. In addition to Bradbury, will we see Logan Jones have a chance to grab that job? Having been selected in the second round, clearly Ben Johnson sees him as a center for the long term.

We know how valuable that position is to this coaching staff, so for me, whoever wins that job will be the player to watch on that unit when the season kicks off in September.
